A Good Weekly Wrap-Up

By Podcast
some wacky stories

A Good Weekly Wrap-Up with several stories today; with most being good news!

However, to start, as Christians we are rooted in the word and should always have a hand on the issue of life in America. The Governor of Illinois, J.B. Pritzker, signed a sweeping new abortion law as a that classifies killing your child as a “fundamental right”.  He states “In a time when too many states across the nation are taking a step backward, Illinois is taking a giant step forward for women’s health. Today we proudly proclaim that we trust women.”  The new abortion bill states that a fertilized egg, embryo, or fetus does not have independent rights!

Switching gears, in light of the recent Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) sexual abuse cases and scandals, the Southern Baptist Convention, at their annual meeting, voted to name abuse as grounds to expel churches. This means, that the SBC can opt to cut ties with churches that refuse to aid victims of abuse. In other words, the Southern Baptist Convention can kick a church out for covering up abuse in the church and not handling it well.

Make sure to check out the rest of the good stories on today’s good weekly wrap-up!

The Political Stooge

Political Stooge

Are you a political stooge?

At the Southern Baptist Convention’s annual meeting this week in Birmingham, Alabama, Dr. JD Greear warns Christians to not take sides on the political spectrum. He states, “If we are known as the stooge for one party, we will lose all audience for the other”. Every action we do as Christians should be about proclaiming the gospel. Breaking down Dr. Greear’s speech to the Southern Baptist Conventions, he continues by claiming “we put an unnecessary obstacle in the way of the gospel for half of our mission field”.

Dr. JD Greear has also stated in the past that he, as a pastor, is a missionary at the pulpit. While, yes, Christians are to go out and make disciples of all the nations, pastors are to tend to the flock.

While keeping politics out of the pulpit sounds good in theory, it is almost impossible to do in today’s society. By no means is this a way to say “Republicans are superior to Democrats because they have backing by the Bible itself”. But, it is saying that the Republican platform is much better than the Democrats platform, which always and widely accepts abortion and gay-rights movements.

All in all, the Gospel and Politics go hand in hand in the world today. While keeping your personal views of issues out of your message is good, speaking on issues that the Bible clearly states need to be spoken on is still a need. Whether that means being a political stooge or not.

Bikinis and Cleavage

By Podcast
Bikini and Cleavage

The debate between what is modest and what is immodest roars on. Is it wrong for Christian women to wear bikinis and show cleavage? What does the Bible actually say about modesty? Is it really just a problem of our lustful ways rather than a Christian sister’s “responsibility” to not cause us to stumble? All these questions and more are answered by the differing opinions from listeners on today’s show!

Whether you believe that bikinis and cleavage shouldn’t be worn or shown or if you’re looking for a more modest swimsuit, Jessica Rey’s swimsuits are a great alternative. She has great and stylish new one-pieces, swim dresses, and even some, more modest, two-pieces.

Engaging College Students

Engaging College Students

When Christians hear “spread the gospel to all nations”, most think of taking the good news to foreign countries. However, all nations mean our local nation too! Spreading the word around local neighborhoods, cities, and states is a definite need.

Alan Mitchell of Every Nation Campus Ministries shares his calling to engage college students around campuses. Surprisingly, more than 50% of college-aged students in the North Carolina area haven’t been exposed to the word. Alan’s mission is to get the gospel to each campus locally, starting with the 34,000 students at North Carolina State University.

Alan’s story starts with a strong conviction after hitting “rock bottom” during the end of his freshman year at college. From there, lots of prayers and reading through the New Testament. Soon, he saw the lack of biblical ministries around college campuses and felt he needed to change that for the better.

Being in this mission for more than 13 years, Alan says the best way to spark a conversation is with a little help from doughnuts.

U.S vs. Mexico

tariff threats

President Trump said WHAT?! In the past week, President Trump has been threatening Mexico with a trade tariff starting at 5% unless Mexico helps fund the southern border wall.

David Fischer of Landmark Capital Gold joins today to discuss President Trump’s and the FEDs recent actions towards America’s economic climate.

The market did, however, respond to Trump’s threats… dropping a whopping 7%; however, SMP did go up 6%. Leaving us, still, in the negatives. Mexico is not the only one being hit with tariff threats. Trump has also cautioned the Chinese government that he will implicate more tariffs if they do not meet at the G20.

Southern Baptist Scandal

Southern Baptist Scandal

Within the past year, the Southern Baptist Convention has been bashed for its sexual abuse scandals. An article by the Huston Chronical, published February 10th, shows 700 victims of these assaults over the past 20 years. Today, on Theological Thursday, Dr. Keith Whitfield, assistant professor of Theology, joins us to walk us through these cases and where they “went wrong”. In direct correlation to the article, Dr. Whitfield wrote only 3 days after the Huston Chronical published theirs as a rebuttal. Where did the Southern Baptist Convention go wrong in disputing these cases? One main misconception is that these assaults should only be handled inside the church – in the words of Dr. Danny Akin “…you should call the police first.” The final call to action on this is to not ignore these issues.

Another topic for today’s Theological Thursday was Dr. Whitfield’s book “Islam and North America: Loving our Muslim Neighbors” and advice on how to love Muslims in our day to day lives. The largest takeaway from this book is remembering to listen to their beliefs and to respect them as human beings.

Mueller Fuels The Flame

The recent Mueller vs. Trump has come to a close with “no evidence to exonerate POTUS”. America is built on “innocent until proven guilty” but it seems that Bob Mueller believes it’s “Guilty until proven innocent”Today we walk through Mueller’s address to the press and break it down bit by bit.Bob Mueller addressing the press

Mueller explains that there was no evidence of obstruction of justice. That leaves the questions, though, can there be obstruction of justice if there was no actual crime? The obvious answer is no. So, why did Mueller go to extreme lengths to scrounge up some sort of evidence?

Here is one of the articles referenced, entitled: Mueller Just Proved His Entire Operation was a Political Hit Job that Trampled The Rule of Law.
