Ephesians 5:8 (NLT)

“For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light!”

In the original Greek, being “full of darkness” actually meant being darkness itself…a much more foreboding thought. Before Jesus saved us we didn’t just think dark thoughts, speak dark words, and do dark deeds…we were darkness incarnate. Thankfully, that was then…but what about now?

Jesus made it perfectly clear that He was light himself, but He also made it clear that those who follow Him could have that light, too (John 8:12). As a Christian, you are NOT just a person who has been saved from the eternal consequences of your sin. You are something far greater:

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” 1 Peter 2:9

We must live “as people of light!” Our love should be obvious, our compassion infectious, and our joy written all over our faces. We should be door holders, encouragement deliverers, hospitality ambassadors, good deed dealers, and good news sharers. Our Christianity should be loud yet gentle, boastful yet humble, resolute yet forgiving. THEN we will be living as people of light.
