Proverbs 8:34-36

Joyful are those who listen to me, watching for me daily at my gates, waiting for me outside my home! For whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the Lord.

What is it that you wait in excited anticipation for? College football? The next season of your favorite show on Netflix? Concert tickets to go on sale for your favorite band? The package that’s on its way from Amazon? A visiting relative? An upcoming vacation? The doors at your favorite store to open on Black Friday? This is the type of enthusiasm God would like us to show when it comes to gaining wisdom.

While we may not have a location to go to or package to order in our quest for wisdom…we do have a book we can open. Sadly, a regular pursuit of the Godly wisdom that waits for us in the Bible is not usually present in the daily routine of most Christians. We know we should read it regularly, but life sometimes gets in the way. The day gets started and the To-Do List awaits our immediate attention…after we check the latest headlines and communication on our smartphones…and before you know it, your good intentions about the Good Book are gone.

We all have a list of things that we know will bring enjoyment and/or fulfillment into our lives and we make a habit of regularly pursuing them. They have a great track record and we know they will usually deliver on our expectations. But, none of them provides “life and receives favor from the Lord.” Only Godly wisdom can deliver on that.

Oh, that we would get excited about obtaining Godly wisdom! Or, that our anticipation of what God’s Word has in store for us would drive us to the front door of our daily schedule to see what might be delivered! Do you want the abundant life that Christ offers? Do you want the favor of the Lord on you? Then joyfully listen to His voice in His Word…seek His counsel…and receive His blessings!
