Proverbs 4:26

Ponder the path of your feet; then all of your ways will be sure.

When was the last time you didn’t pay attention to where you were walking? Did you trip and fall? Did you walk into something? Did you step in something nasty? Did you embarrass yourself or get hurt? I’m sure we all have some funny stories to tell, but in this case, it’s no laughing matter.

To “ponder” means to think about (something) carefully, especially before making a decision or reaching a conclusion. As followers of Christ, we need to make right assessments about the roads on which we choose to travel. Will they lead us closer to Him, or closer to the world? Will they result in a godly lifestyle, or in sin? Will they glorify the Father, or keep the spotlight on ourselves? These are questions we need to ask before we take another step.

Sometimes we are too busy to stop and ponder…and sometimes, in our sin, we just choose not to. But biblical wisdom cries, “Be still, and know that I am God” (Ps. 46:10). “I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune with mine own heart: and my spirit made diligent search” (Ps. 77:6). “But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silent before him” (Hab. 2:20). Do you live a deliberate life? Do you look before you leap? Pray before you progress?

Once again, you can hear the Father’s voice urging us to “Ponder your path, my child, then all of your ways will be sure!” The world, your flesh, and the Devil will try on a daily basis to lead you in the wrong direction. Don’t do it. Stop! Ponder! Then follow the Lord in obedience and He will make sure your path is a blessed one.
