Matthew 2:13-15a

Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.”  And he rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt and remained there until the death of Herod.”

Wouldn’t that be a nice way to go through life? God sends an angel into your dreams to tell you exactly what to do next…including a promise to return with the next step at the appropriate time. BOOM! You are in the center of God’s will 24/7.

Unfortunately, while God does make some things pretty obvious to us from time to time, it certainly isn’t the norm. So what’s a good Christian to do? Listen for the clues? Watch for the signs? Lay out a fleece? Cast lots? Wait until you have some sense of peace about the decision?

God might not show up in your dreams, but He is always present (and speaking) in His Word. The way forward is the way of wisdom. Measure your choices against scripture. Seek Godly counsel. Pray for wisdom. Keep Kingdom priorities in mind.

God is with you before, during, and after the decision and has promised never to leave you nor forsake you (Deut. 31:6), so don’t sit around waiting for a good night’s sleep and a dreamy visitation from an angel. Walk the way of wisdom and then make a decision. God’s got your back no matter what happens next.
