Philippians 4:6-7
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Go to the throne…before the phone.
When tough times come, how often do we turn to the phone (or email or Facebook) as our first line of defense rather than hitting our knees in prayer? Anxiety-free living is impossible if you don’t have an active prayer life. Paul encourages us to take everything to God in prayer, and to do so repeatedly, and to do it with a thankful heart.
Paul also says that we should “present” our requests to God. I imagine the Holy God of the Universe sitting on His throne as I approach Him with deep humility and reverence. I gently lay my prayers at His feet, thankful that He would even allow me the privilege to do so. Finally, because I have learned to trust in His providence, goodness, and plan (see the previous Daily Dose), I leave His presence with the full assurance that no matter how He answers my request, everything is going to be OK.
So…the next time you are tempted to pick up the phone (or iPad or laptop) in order to share your trouble with someone, stop and take the time to go to the only One who truly knows you. He is waiting for your call.
