Will you?
You can…but only if you know The Way.
Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
(John 14:6 ESV)
You may be thinking, “I’m a pretty good person so I think I’m probably going to Heaven.” Unfortunately, being a “good person” is not what going to Heaven requires. Instead, you have to be a forgiven person.
“God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.”
(Ephesians 2:8-9 NLT)
To be blunt…none of us can “work” our way or “earn” our way into Heaven. All of our good deeds are worthless when placed before a Holy and Perfect God, and that is where Jesus comes in.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
(John 3:16 ESV)
In a nutshell, Jesus came to live a life we couldn’t live (it was perfect) :: He died a death that should be ours (because of our sin) :: He paid a price that we owe (death), but cannot pay ourselves (he was our substitute).
Now what?
Actually, it’s pretty simple: pray the following statements, in between the quotes, out loud, from your heart.
1
Admit to God that you need saving
“I’m a sinner”
2
Confess to God that you want to change
“I repent of my sin”
3
Acknowledge what Jesus did
“I believe Jesus died on a cross for my sin, and that he was buried for three days, and that he rose again”
4
Accept the free gift of God’s forgiveness
“I accept your forgiveness by placing my faith in what your Son did for me on the cross”
5
Give Him control of your life
“Please take control of my life and make me into what You want me to be”
6
Welcome home
You are a child of God!
