Matthew 25:14-15

“Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey.”

Do you remember what happens next? The guy with five bags invested wisely and earned five more. The guy with two bags did the same and earned two additional bags of gold. The last guy…totally messed up. Thinking his master a “hard man”, his fear led him to bury the one bag he had been given and in doing so he earned for himself a one-way ticket to nowhere. At the very least he could have deposited it into a bank to earn a little interest, but nooooooo – he squandered the opportunity he had been given.

To some of us the Lord will say, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your Master’s happiness!” (Mth 25:23). To those that remain the words will not be so encouraging…”throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” (Mth. 25:30).

Unfortunately, many of us get saved and then we get back to our routines. Work, family, free time, hobbies…all of which are great, in and of themselves, but essentially worthless if we don’t engage them for the glory of God and for the advancement of His Kingdom. Our Christianity should not just be an aspect of our lives…it IS our life.

God has given all of us “bags of gold” to invest for Him until He returns. Are you using your time, talent and treasure wisely? Are you making an eternal difference, or just making a difference in the here and now? As a father, are you the spiritual leader of your home or just a good provider? As a mother, are you shepherding your children’s hearts or just focusing on good behavior? Are you a better employee? Coach? Student? Friend?

The Master is on His way back…are you ready to tell Him how you invested what He has given you?
