A Columbine Survivor
Today we are joined by Kacey Ruegsegger Johnson, a columbine survivor. Getting an inside look to the before’s and after’s of the horrible act of April 20, 1999, at Columbine Highschool. Plus, overcoming adversity and sharing about the events leading up to the shooting.
Kacey Ruegsegger
Kacey Ruegsegger was a junior at Columbine Highschool when the awful shooting happened. She was eating her lunch in the library when one of the faculty members advised them to take cover. When the shooters finally made their way into the library, she felt a sense of evil cover the room. Kacey was frightened at the moment, but, she felt a wave of comfort pass over her and the hand of an angel over the left shoulder. As the shooters drew closer and closer, her fear stopped as she prayed. The shooters finally made their way to her. Shooting a shot through her shoulder and destroying the arm bones. Playing dead, the shooters left her be.
The Survivor’s Recovery
Kacey, by the grace of God, made it out alive. However, she still had to be rushed to the hospital and have immediate surgery. After Kacey was released from the hospital’s care, reporters swarmed her with questions. Returning home and recovering, Kacey still dealt with the PTSD of the events. Being a columbine survivor was not easy for anyone. She delt with a fear, PTSD, survivor’s guilt, and struggled with her new arm.
