Proverbs 28:2 (NLT)

When there is moral rot within a nation, its government topples easily. But wise and knowledgeable leaders bring stability.

Is there moral rot in America? The proof is widespread and disturbing. Abortion on demand, and in some states, up to the point of delivery. Porn addiction is at epidemic levels and the average age for first-time exposure is down to nine. So-called “gay marriage” is the law of the land and Facebook now offers over 70 options when it comes to gender. Our entertainment is sexualized, violent, and profane. In the book, “The Day America Told the Truth,” the anonymous nationwide polling revealed that 90% of Americans lie regularly and 7% would kill a stranger for $10 million. Is that rotten enough for you?

“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”  Is. 5:20

America is in steep moral decline, and as a result, we see regular convulsions in the halls of government. The partisan divide grows deeper by the day as our nation recedes further and further from God’s standard’s or moral right and wrong. Founding Father after Founding Father stated that our form of government…self-government…is designed to work only for a moral and religious people. Why? Because you have to have a common foundation from which to operate, which not only enables individuals to govern their own behavior but gives them a desire to love their neighbor as themselves (Mk. 12:30-31). Remove that common moral foundation – God’s standards – and the nations simply lacks the ability to endure. Law and order is replaced by moral chaos and eventually…either anarchy or tyranny.

We all need to pray for God to turn the hearts of our current leadership to wisdom and salvation (1 Tim. 2:1-4). We also need to pray that God raises up “wise and knowledgeable leaders” that can help move America back from the brink towards which she is so rapidly advancing. Our government is on shaky ground because our society is rotting from the inside out. Every Christian needs to be persistently crying out for Revival in our churches and Awakening in our streets. Without those movements of God, the rot will only deepen and America…as we have known it…will cease to exist.
