Proverbs 10:3

The Lord will not let the godly go hungry, but he refuses to satisfy the craving of the wicked.

Do godly people sometimes lack food? Yes. Do wicked people sometimes get what they want? Of course. Today’s verse is not about material needs, but about spiritual longings…and when it comes to the godly and the wicked, there is no comparison with respect to the quality of the results.

One of the challenges many Christians face is finding contentment. It was an enormous challenge in my life and so I decided to study it and then teach on it. Paul’s comments in Philippians 4:10 really caught my attention one day: “Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.” Contentment was something the Apostle Paul had to LEARN! The same Apostle Paul who wrote over half of the New Testament. Contentment does not come easy for anyone.

That being said, one thing that we can count on is the spiritual bounty that we can experience when we are walking with God. Our spiritual hunger always has a willing remedy, if we but merely seek after it. Jeremiah 29:13 says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Do you want more of God? Seek after Him! Do you want more of His peace? Seek after Him! Do you want more of His wisdom? Seek after Him! Do you want more of His presence? Seek after Him! Your Lord will never let you go spiritually hungry when you are seeking after godliness.

On the other hand, the wicked (lost) will find no such sustenance. They may have all the trappings of the material life, but deep down, the spiritual longing of their soul remains unmet. C.S. Lewis said it well when he stated, “If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.” Praise God that we have found our source in the Lord!
