Proverbs 1:20, 23

Wisdom shouts in the streets. She cries out in the public square. “Come and listen to my counsel. I’ll share my heart with you and make you wise.”

Pastor Adrian Rogers said, “Wisdom is speaking with a tear in her voice. There’s a sense of urgency; there’s a sense of emergency. Wisdom is pressing her invitation. She’s lifting up her voice. She’s crying.” Imagine God crying out to you today with this plea:

“Listen to me! I want to help you make wise decisions! Don’t go down that road! Think clearly! Look before you leap!”

I recently did something that was not only sinful…it was stupid. I heard wisdom crying out to me but I chose to ignore her voice. As a result, I spent days filled with guilt and shame. Have you ever experienced something like that? I’m pretty sure you have.

God isn’t imploring us to follow Him into the halls of wisdom to seek her counsel for no good reason. He isn’t doing it because its “His Way or the Highway.” He’s doing it because He loves us (Jn 3:16) and wants the best for us (Jer. 29:11). He knows all about the damage that we do to ourselves (and others) when we make foolish decisions…and He understands the wedge those decisions can drive into our relationship with Him. Like a loving Father, the Lord tells us that, “Whether you turn to the right or the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’”

That voice is God’s Wisdom for our lives, and if we don’t seek for her in His Word and follow her in obedience, we will reap the consequences…consequences that grieve the heart of our Father and will always take a toll on our lives.

Can you hear her crying out to you?
