Genesis 1:27 (NIV)

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

Today is the nationwide opening of the movie Unplanned, which tells the true story of Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood abortion clinic Director who left the industry after witnessing – via ultrasound – a baby recoiling to get away from the abortionist’s suction tool. Abby was holding the ultrasound wand. She left the clinic that day and never went back, Praise God, and today she runs a ministry that helps other abortion clinic workers leave that horrible industry.

Abby had to contend with the fact that she had been complicit in the abortion of over 22,000 unborn children. Through many tears and nightmares, she discovered that God is indeed able…not only to forgive her…but to heal her. Today she is walking in victory and using her past to help others in need. If you are a post-abortive mom or dad, that same forgiveness and healing are available to you, too, through Christ.

Unplanned is not an easy movie to watch and was even given an R-rating by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). They didn’t give it that rating because of bad language or sex…they gave it the R-rating due to “violence.” As left-leaning as Hollywood is, at least they had the honesty to see the truth of abortion.

The point of the movie is not to condemn, but to educate. The truth of abortion is dark and disturbing…but the forgiveness of it through Christ is bright and amazing. As Christians, we are called to stand for justice for all persons, both inside and outside the womb (Micah 6:8). We are called to care for the child, the mother, and the father. And while the circumstances leading to an unwanted pregnancy may be sinful…the pregnancy in and of itself is not. Children are always a blessing from the Lord, despite the circumstances of their birth (Psalm 127:3).

Every person that claims to follow Christ should be pro-life without reservation and without apology…but also full of not just Truth, but Grace and Compassion as well. Every Christians should be willing to face this dark truth and then ask: What can I do? Who can I pray for? What organization can I support financially? Where can I serve?
