“When they cry for help, I will not answer. Though they anxiously search for me, they will not find me. For they hated knowledge and chose not to fear the Lord. They rejected my advice and paid no attention when I corrected them. Therefore, they must eat the bitter fruit of living their own way, choking on their own schemes.”
There are two common applications of this discomforting passage. One is an application towards the foolishness of living life outside of God’s commands, and that can impact both the saved and the unsaved, alike, and is best represented by biblical teaching on sowing and reaping. The more disturbing application is the final result of rejecting God’s Truth – eternal damnation.
Sadly, most of mankind loves the darkness more than the light because their deeds are dark (Jn. 3:19). When the Great Judgment comes, the lost will cry for help, but their Creator will not answer. It will be too late. After living a life given over to their debased and foolish ways (Rom 1:24), they will receive their just rewards. What a sad and tragic day that will be.
Hopefully, you will not be amongst them because you have placed all of your faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and have been saved by grace through that faith. But still, there is a word of warning here for His Children…for you and me:
When we choose to disobey God we will always end up eating the bitter fruit. We will always end up choking on our own schemes. Instead, we must love knowledge, seek wisdom, and fear the Lord. It is the only way to enjoy the blessings of obedience.
